VI. LEVELED PLAY

A. YPI has grown since we started playing as a club over 4 years ago with one venue at the Community Center when we were all basically beginners.  We have had to make adjustments to accommodate everyone as we have grown and evolved.  First, we needed more room and we were able to add 7th Street Park.  We were getting more players who didn’t know how to play, so we added beginner clinics at Avenue I Park.  Some of our players became serious players and developed their games and playing skills to a much higher level than simple recreational play, so over a year ago we developed a competitive program that allowed them to focus on preparing for tournaments.  We now have an “Advanced Group” and they have exclusive use of the 7th Street Park pickleball courts on Tuesday and Thursdays.  Recently, a small group of recreational players who don’t want to play at the Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays complained that the Advanced Group was getting special treatment and the recreational players should be allowed to play at 7th Street Park every weekday.  This would effectively shut down the competitive branch of YPI’s program.

Recommended Action: Motion to DENY the request to allow recreational players to have access to the 7th Street pickleball courts on Tuesday and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm.

B. There has been a request for a time for 3.0 – 3.5 players to focus on competitive play.

Action item: Form a committee to investigate the feasibility of creating a second competitive group and if it is feasible, recommend qualifying criteria, suggest possible playing times and locations.

VII. GUIDELINES FOR PLAYTIME SCHEDULER

We have used playtimescheduler.com for several years to schedule any games that weren’t organized by our club.  They were limited to venues that we had been using for our club play.  We have received a request to add a privately owned court to playtimescheduler.com.  We will need to decide what our policy is for adding new playing locations.

Action Item: Develop criteria for new locations.
